Marriage Unfiltered

Unfiltered Feeling Heard

Episode Summary

This is why we keep Bryan and Alissa around. Jeff and Lisa take a conflict about invalidation and feeling heard to the microphones and Bryan and Alissa step in with some clarity for both. We call this reffing. Listen in and maybe learn some things about how you can mis-hear things, how you can mis-speak things, and how the littlest comment can add so much pressure or make your mate feel fought for or invalidated.

Episode Notes

When we don't agree about something, we can quickly invalidate the other's feelings. Each of us discuss an event from the past week where we could have ended up in a very hurtful blowup. When we see our mate's feelings for what they are, we can choose to fight for their heart. We also dive into what family and holidays can do to add pressure to our relationship. We need to choose each other despite what our extended family pressures us to do. Give us grace as we try to figure out moving into new phases of life and how to deal with parents, family, in-laws and boundaries.

The book we reference is called "Good Boundaries and Goodbyes" by Lysa Terkeurst We hope to dive into this topic deeper soon.

Join us soon as we look into boundaries and talk about those in the future.
